Fakenham Town suffer two away defeats in four days

Fakenham Town emerged empty handed from two tough away games over the festive period - but not through lacking of trying.

Playing their first games under new boss Andy Cunningham the Ghosts were beaten 4-1 at Walsham le Willows on Saturday before going down 1-0 at Thetford Town on Boxing Day morning.

Fakenham went behind on 20 minutes at the weekend when James Brame headed home but found themselves back on level terms nine minutes later when Kyle Plumb slotted home from the penalty spot after Reece Taylor had been fouled.

Sadly the game then slipped away from the Ghosts in the second half as Brame completed his hat-trick and Lee Warren added a fourth near the end.

The next port of call was Mundford Road on Tuesday morning and Fakenham gave hosts Thetford a good game before sliding to a 1-0 defeat.

Town got their noses in front after just 12 minutes after putting together a flowing move which ended with Bradley Sandell crossing for Jason Clarke to head home.

The hosts had further chances, with Max Melanson volleying just over in the second half and Elliott Smith also going close, but in the end had to settle for a narrow win.

Fakenham remain third from bottom in the table but are now just a point ahead of Ipswich Wanderers, albeit with four games in hand, after their rivals recorded a shock 1-0 win over runaway leaders Felixstowe and Walton.

The Ghosts make a welcome return to Clipbush Park on Saturday afternoon (3pm) when they entertain Histon in their final match of 2017.
