Fakenham-based cycling club East Coast Riders attracted over 150 cyclists – varying in experience from top Eastern League competitors to complete novices – to their cyclo-cross at Hempton.
The exciting course in the former sand and gravel pits was at its best as the sun emerged from morning mist and spectators were were treated to a very close finish in the senior race which was won by league leader Andrew Nichols from Ross Tricker and Tim Guy.
Local interest was concentrated at the opposite ends of the age categories – in the Veterans (over 40) and the Under 12s. In the veterans Pete Farrell was East Coast Riders’ highest finisher in 38th place, ahead of Justin Lawton (47th) Nick Thurgill (51st) and Tony Money (55th). Madeline Curl was top finisher from the North Norfolk Schools Cycling Academy, ahead of Mungo Gollam, while behind Tomas Flint outsprinted Oliver Flint by the narrowest of margins with Jamie King just four seconds further back.
