Fakenham travelled to Norwich seconds intent on keeping their run of winning results going but realising that Norwich had beaten second-placed Diss earlier in the season. A fine display saw Fakenham home 5-50.
Fakenham hit the ground running. Some great handling and support saw captain Adam Lingwood cross to score the first try.
Fakenham continued to press and after a chip kick from Tom Bane-Young the Norwich right wing knocked on, gifting Fakenham a scrum.
The ball was moved to Bane-Young who dummied one pass then straightened and passed to his brother Joe to score close to the posts, Tom score the conversion.
Norwich were at sixes and sevens so Fakenham switched their attack to the right and forced a lineout. The ball was won and a drive a saw Ashley Stewart score the third try.
From a forward break Colm Hunt and Ashley Stewart forced the pace and Ashley scored his second try which was converted. Fakenham captain Adam Lingwood then scored under the posts and Bane-Young converted for 0-31.
The second half saw the Norwich team grow into the game but the visiting defence held firm.
Fakenham eventually attacked from 50 metres out in 12 phases to put Lloyd Marshall away for the sixth try.
Almost immediately George Ready started his own attack in the Fakenham half and with a mixture of pace and evasive running scored the seventh try, which Bane-Young converted.
Norwich scored a long-range try but the final try was testament to the Fakenham forwards who had provided a great platform all game with Rory Singleton driving over from a maul.
Marshall took the conversion and was successful to take the score to 5-50.
Fakenham seconds also had a good win, at home against Beccles seconds, 82 26 in the EC3 North league fixture but unfortunately will not play again until March 4 with an away game to Southwold seconds.
This weekend should see Fakenham firsts play the next round of the Norfolk Plate but as yet the draw has not been published.
