Fakenham Evergreens get just reward

Fakenham Evergreens 2,
 Harleston Magpies IV 0

Evergreens finally got some reward for their recent improved performances with victory over Harleston Magpies IV in the Norfolk Women’s League Premier Division.

The hosts came out of the blocks determined to earn some points from this game. Plenty of quick passing and moving the ball around well created several chances for Evergreens early in the game.

After 10 minutes their pressure paid off when some scrappy play on the Magpies’ goal-line saw the ball cleared to the top of the D, where Chantelle Baker was waiting, and her powerful first time strike found its way into the bottom corner.

Evergreens continued to dominate the first half. Hannah Mitchell made numerous probing runs down the right and winger Katie Sammacicci was unfortunate not to convert Mitchell’s powerful crosses to further increase Evergreens’ lead.

Magpies came out stronger in the second half which created more open, end-to-end play. Naomi Holl had a storming game in midfield, while Harriet Henderson linked up well with Baker and Harriet Segasby to keep the game flowing.

Kathryn Gordon used her skill well in the Evergreens attack to continuously win free hits and short corners which eventually proved fruitful. A well worked short corner between Gordon and Holl found Mitchell waiting at the far post to sweep the ball home and increase Evergreens’ lead.

Magpies created several opportunities but Sarah Pruden, Abi White and Sam Turner were clinical in the Evergreens defence, snubbing out any chances of a shot at goal.

PoM: Kathryn Gordon.
