Fakenham must fancy their chances of registering their first Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League win of the season on Saturday (11am start at Highfield Lawn) when they entertain bottom club Norwich, who have lost their opening four matches.

At Cambridge Granta at the weekend, Fakenham took a draw thanks largely to an unbeaten 88 from South African skipper Mike Smith.

With county paceman Ian Slegg back in the team, Fakenham saw Granta post 243-7, Ben Smart claiming 3-48 off 13 overs as C Park provided the backbone of the home innings with 93 not out.

Fakenham again lost their openers cheaply, but with Stephen Gray contributing 21, they held on for 151-8 off 55 overs to claim seven points to Granta's 15.

That leaves Fakenham second bottom with 26 points from two draws and two defeats, 20 points behind Great Witchingham and 25 behind Granta, which makes a first win all the more important on Saturday.

In the Lovewell Blake Norfolk Alliance Division Three, Fakenham's eight-wicket home win over Hales was greatly influenced by Sri Lankan Sam Desilva. He claimed 4-50 as Hales were bowled out for 142 then hit 94 of Fakenham's winning 143-2, which took them third in the table. On Saturday the side is at Ashmanhaugh.

In NCB West Norfolk Division Three, Fakenham A won by three runs at Beetley, D Foster (64) and Bruce Bushell (70 not out) the main contributors in 218-4 after Beetley had set 215-7.

The side entertains Thornham on Saturday (2pm.)

In Division Five, Fakenham B could muster only 64 against Swanton Morley A's 201-7.

Next match is Gooderstone, away, on Saturday.
