Fakenham Town face a big test of their promotion credentials after making it 19 points from a possible 21 at the weekend.

The Ghosts notched an injury-time winner to edge home 2-1 at Felixstowe and Walton Reserves and consolidate fifth place in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League.

Andy Cunningham’s in-form side now face a big game under the Clipbush Park lights, with second placed Mulbarton Wanderers providing the opposition tomorrow evening (Friday, 7.45pm).

Another win for Fakenham would take them to within two points of the Mulberries with two games in hand and it will be interesting to see if the hosts can rise to an exciting challenge.

Fakenham went ahead after 19 minutes at Felixstowe, with Harry Exley latching on to Callum Brain’s pass to fire home. The home side hit back in the second half through Liam Hillyard, but the Ghosts had the final say in the fourth minute on injury-time when Ryan Curtis scored the winner.

Fakenham’s good run continued at Clipbush Park on Tuesday evening when they came through a dramatic game against near neighbours Swaffham Town to make progress in the League Challenge Cup.

The Ghosts came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 and then won an extended penalty shoot-out 8-7.

Alex Vincent scored in the sixth and 33rd minutes to give the Pedlars a healthy advantage but Tom Blake pulled one back seven minutes before the break and it was 2-2 on the hour mark when keeper Tommy Rix bundled a cross from Brain into his own net.

Fakenham Reserves, who were without a game at the weekend, face a tough trip to Anglian Combination Division One leaders Mundford on Saturday.
