Fakenham Town looking to bounce back after a difficult week

With 15 minutes gone The Doughboys opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Ghosts’ keeper Tommy Rix was then called upon to tip a Wellingborough shot over the bar after half an hour to keep the score down.

Fakenham had a chance of their own moments later when Reece Taylor chased down an opponent in the corner, robbed him of the ball and found Tim Cary, who could only watch his shot drift agonisingly wide.

The first real chance of the second half was a Fakenham one, with Matt Gilchrist heading wide from a corner. Lewis Sturman was then booked for a heavy challenge on the hour mark.

Fakenham had the ball in the net, but had it chalked off with Josh Youngs straying offside before heading home a Stuart Garner cross.

Ghosts’ midfielder Sturman was forced from the field in clear pain in the 75th minute after jumping for the ball with the Wellingborough captain. He now faces several weeks on the sidelines, having dislocated his shoulder – and all at Clipbush Park wish him well.

The misery was completed when Wellingborough scored again in the dying minutes of the game and Matt Franks was booked shortly after.

The poor run of results continued on Tuesday evening away at Newmarket Town in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division. In miserable conditions, The Ghosts conceded twice in a matter of minutes (11 and 12) against a very strong home side.

A third goal after 28 minutes completed the first-half scoring, and it was the same again in the second period with the Ghosts conceding after 60, 74 and 76 minutes for a final score of 6-0.

Despite what the scoreline might suggest, Fakenham did have chances to score, most notably hitting the Newmarket woodwork.

The fixtures continue on Friday evening when Walsham-le-Willows, who have started the season well, visit Clipbush Park in the league (7.45pm). Having lost their two games so far Fakenham find themselves at the foot of the table.
