FAKENHAM Town are hoping to entice a big crowd to Clipbush Park for the promotion clash with Cambridge University Press on Saturday with the offer of free entry for all fans.

The Ghosts are currently fifth in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, three points behind title contenders Cambridge University Press, with the top three teams eligible for promotion.

Manager Wayne Anderson said: “It’s a big game for us and we’re hoping for a big crowd.

“We’ve been struggling to get supporters in even though we are in a good position and it would be great to see plenty of people coming through the gate on Saturday to support their local side.”

Fakenham have boosted their squad for the run-in with the signings of Dereham striker Scott Sutherland-Gray and left-back Matthew Dye, from Downham.

Sutherland-Gray has scored 10 goals for Dereham this season, but has been unable to command a regular starting place for the Magpies. While his availability is expected to be limited, Anderson hopes he can help fill the void created by leading scorer Ben Boyce’s knee injury, which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

“He’s a prolific goalscorer and he will be a good asset,” said Anderson. “To be fair we’ve been without Ben for four or five weeks now and the boys up front, James Tricks and Kyle Plumb, have been fantastic.

“The midfielders have also been chipping in with goals and that shows what sort of side we are and how well we are playing.”

On his side’s promotion chances, Anderson added: “I’ve always thought a top six finish would be realistic and we’re still aiming for that.

“We would love to finish in the top three but I don’t want to get carried away.”

Fakenham Tn 3, Team Bury 0

FAKENHAM maintained their promotion push with a comfortable victory over Team Bury at Clipbush Park on Tuesday.

The Ghosts took the lead on 37 minutes when Sam Garner’s pass put James Tricks clear on goal and he remained calm to beat the keeper.

The lead was doubled in the second half when James Page set up Kyle Plumb to head home.

Tricks then added his second from the penalty spot as Fakenham moved to within two points of the promotion places ahead of this Saturday’s crucial game at home to fellow challengers Cambridge University Press. The Ghosts are now unbeaten in four games.

Fakenham’s match at Stowmarket was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch on Saturday.
