Fakenham Town head into the final three months of their season with a clear message from manager Wayne Anderson: Let’s finish it strongly, writes Gareth Davis.

The Ghosts have performed superbly in their first campaign back in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division to sit eighth with the final stretch approaching. Relegation is not going to be an issue for them and with some impressive results under their belt already against some of the top flight’s leading clubs, Anderson is urging his players to keep it up in their last 14 fixtures.

They start the run on Saturday at home to Gorleston – a side they won 4-3 away from home to as they announced themselves in the Premier Division back in August.

Anderson said: “That game away to Gorleston showed back then we were capable of getting results against the top teams, even though we had only just been promoted. We were on a good run at the time and made an excellent start but what has been very good since then is that we haven’t dropped off and slipped away from a good position.

“You’re always going to win games and lose games after getting promoted but when we have been beaten we have usually bounced back quickly which is why we are in the top eight going into February. That’s a brilliant achievement and with three months to go we aren’t worried about not staying in the division so we have got to now go out and keep our levels up between now and May.”

Anderson will be looking for his players to show their ability to recover after a defeat when they host Gorleston on the back of losing a seven-goal thriller at seventh-placed Felixstowe & Walton United on Saturday.

They trailed early on but Robbie Harris’s 10th goal of the season put them on level terms before Ashley Jarvis made it 2-1 ahead of half-time. The home side tied it up again early in the second period only for Jarvis to bring up his eighth of 2014/15 midway through the half – but a late sting in the tail came via two goals in the last five minutes to seal the win for Felixstowe.

“We are where we are because of the hard work of everyone in the squad and that’s the way it has to continue to be as there is still a lot of football to be played,” Anderson added.

Fakenham’s reserves were 8-1 winners at home to Loddon United Reserves in Division Three of the Anglian Combination last Saturday thanks to braces from Nathan Glendenning and Luke Gray, along with further goals from Connor Walker, Daniel Tuddenham, Callum Brain and Josh Youngs. This Saturday they travel to North Walsham Town Reserves (2.30pm).
