CRICKET: Fakenham beat Diss U13 in the county final of the 20-over MCC Spirit of Cricket national competition and will entertain Cambridge Granta in the regional stage.

Fakenham got off to a slow but steady start with the Diss bowlers giving away a number of wides.

Jack Burton reached his 30 and retired with Billy Yarham making 18 before being caught. Jack Timmins (17) and Thomas Hill (7) got the scoreboard moving. Lloyd Marshall (17) and Harrison Futter (23) took the score to 145 with some excellent shots, with a huge six from Marshall.

Diss look positive but a fired-up Fakenham kept it tight in the field with Marshall and Charlie Read opening with good spells. Marshall got the breakthrough before Hill, in his four-over spell, took two for six. With good overs from Harry Bammant, Yarham and Emily Woodhouse, Fakenham kept control, Tommo Yarham behind the stumps doing a great job.

Diss made 105, Fakenham's quality in depth and flawless fielding being the main difference.
