Two of Fakenham Cricket Club's rising stars had a taste of top-class action at Fenners against Somerset.

Fast bowler Adam Woodhouse, studying at university in Chelmsford, and batsman/wicketkeeper Steven Gray, who is at Cambridge, were in the Cambridge Universities Cricket Centre of Excellence three-day team.

The Somerset side, which wrapped up victory in two days, included Andy Caddick, Ian Blackwell, Justin Langer and Marcus Trescothick, against whom the Fakenham duo had mixed results.

A combination of nerves and a wet ball led to Woodhouse's first two deliveries slipping out of his hand and becoming beamers, for which he was banned from bowling for the rest of the first innings. His second-innings spell of six overs saw 44 runs taken off him. With the bat he contributed two in the first innings, batting with Gray who made an impressive 26 not out ahead of his four in the second innings. In the second innings Woodhouse was caught and bowled for nought, with Langer and Trescothick in the slips.
