BOWLS: The juniors of the Gallow Indoor Bowls Club finished their season with a match against the Gallow IBC ladies.
This competition was played for the Vera Rose Bowl, a trophy designated by the ladies’ section committee for a nominated match each year.
Played over 16 ends, the triples competition resulted in a win for the ladies on each rink.
Suzanne King’s block, playing against Rhys Morgan’s block, won 21 shots to 12, moving ahead in the later ends, although the rink scores were closer in the middle stages.
Louise Hannant’s block, playing against Lee Johnson’s block, won 20 shots to 12, moving from 11-10 up with just four ends to go.
Coralie Bell’s block won 17 shots to 14 against Danny Cawthorne’s block in a tight match, with Coralie drawing second wood on her last bowl at a point where the juniors held the count needed to win the rink.
Pauline Frost’s block had the best win, playing against Curtis Walter’s block, with a 22 shots to five result.
The ladies played a selection of A and B team players.
The juniors included two six-year-olds and two newcomers who were allowed to join in playing four ends each.
These opportunities allow the young players to gain experience of competitive matches.
Gallow IBC is a club committed to the integration of the juniors into mainstream events, a policy which should see continued progression of up-and-coming youngsters.
The programme of matches played during the year by the juniors can be seen by looking at their section on the website of the “Fakenham-sports-centre.”
The new season of junior sessions will start in September when new young members will be welcome.
Last season’s excursion to Wells Primary School is to be repeated, if it can be arranged. A number of new players emerged from this project.
There is a team of qualified coaches helping both juniors and the Saturday adult beginners.
Old and new players will be welcomed.
Inquiries about joining can be addressed to the Fakenham Sports Centre on 01328 862867.
