Fakenham Town have been handed the plumb tie in round four of the Norfolk Senior Cup, a home tie against Norwich City.

It will be played on Tuesday, November 30 (7.45pm ko) at Clipbush Park.

City are expected to play a team of academy players on their return to the competition for the first time in two decades.

The draw was made live on Radio Norfolk on Friday night and the introduction of the two ‘big’ teams in Norwich City and King’s Lynn into the competition has caused plenty of interest.

Ricky Martin, of Norwich City, said he was “very pleased with the draw, we have played at Fakenham a couple times in recent seasons, and have always been made very welcome, and the club has good facilities.”

Ghosts’ manager Wayne Anderson was delighted with the draw. “An excellent draw for Fakenham that is great for the club,” he said. “It will be a great occasion for players and supporters, and I’m sure we will give them a good game.”

The full draw: Gorleston v Dereham, Fakenham v Norwich City, North Walsham v Norwich Utd, Norwich St Johns v Diss, Gt Yarmouth v King’s Lynn Town, St Andrews v Blofield, Thetford Town v Hempnall, Wroxham v Cromer.

Diss Town 1, Fakenham 0

This game went according to the form book as second-placed Diss Town held off bottom-five Fakenham.

It was a mixture of spirited defending from the visitors and some wayward finishing by the Diss forwards, as they failed to capitalise on their territorial advantage.

With defender Lee Hyde back in the starting line-up and Matt Gilchrist away on holiday, Dan Savory came back into midfield, and Jason Cole partnered Karl Pask up front.

The first half remained goalless as a stubborn Fakenham defence worked their socks off. Stafan Gilding had the best chance in the first period, for Diss, when he headed over from close range. A chipped effort by Jordon Rocastle went narrowly over the Fakenham bar.

The second half was just as tight as the first with Fakenham mixing it with their hosts and making it hard for them. But Luke Catchpole broke the deadlock, shooting through a ruck of players after a move started by a tackle by Ryan MacFadden in the 56th minute.

Manager Wayne Anderson was disappointed that his team’s efforts were not rewarded with a point.

The Ghosts are at home to Long Melford on Saturday and to Gorleston on Tuesday in the Division One Cup.
