Hindringham coming home

Bungay 0, Hindringham 2

Hindringham will look to boost their Anglian Combination Division One survival chances when they finally return to The Elms on Saturday to face Sprowston 2.30 ko, with new club facilities open for the first time. Home matches have been played at Holt during construction.

Hindringham improved their chances with a win at bottom club Bungay at the weekend.

They travelled without the injured Whittred, but Hudson returned to partner West up front.

Hindringham started slowly and could not get into the game. A spirited young Bungay side had the upper hand and looked dangerous on the break. They hit Stockdale’s woodwork a couple of times. Hindringham had a few openings, Chilvers going close with a header, but did not create anything of real threat.

Hindringham came out in the second half, with the wind in their favour and tried to pin Bungay back and create chances.

Ainsley was introduced for Hudson and he caused a number of problems for the home defence. Betts was getting a lot of the ball, and from a short corner from Chilvers, Betts was brought down inside the box. Up stepped Gary Belton to convert the spot kick.

Within minutes Bungay were awarded a penalty, which the forward put wide.

Chilvers sustained a nasty head injury, and while Hindringham waited for Oliver to get ready, West won a free-kick. Betts laid it to the right and Gary Belton hit an unstoppable bullet into the top corner.

Stockdale’s handling in goal was top-class throughout in difficult conditions. Hindringham have won four out of their last five games to turn their season around.

They hope there is more to come on their return to The Elms.
