Fakenham Town are gearing up for a cracking Easter showdown with one of their main relegation rivals.
The Ghosts, six points adrift of Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division safety with just six games left to play, have to wait until Monday for their next competitive fixture.
And it couldn’t be any bigger than the visit of Thetford Town, who play their game in hand over the Ghosts on Saturday when they host Hadleigh United.
As it stands, Fakenham are already five points behind third-from-bottom Thetford – who occupy the final place in the drop zone – in the table.
Things got worse for Wayne Anderson’s side at the weekend when they were beaten 5-1 at home by FC Clacton.
While they came firing out of the traps, the hosts soon found themselves 3-0 down at Clipbush Park. Ricky Claxton’s goal gave Fakenham hope but a Sam Garner red card – for handling on his own goal-line – and two further Clacton goals capped another day to forget.
Fakenham’s second string came away with a point after a 2-2 draw at Swaffham Town Reserves, and stay in 12th position in Anglian Combination Division Three. Loddon United Reserves visit Clipbush Park on Saturday (2.30pm).
