GALLOW bowler Mervyn King (pictured) gave a brilliant performance in the semi-finals of the Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Inter-national Open in Perth, but was beaten 5-7, 11-4, 2-1 by his England team-mate Ian Bond.

“If I hadn't played well, I would have been gutted, but it was a tremendous game to play in, and the spectators loved it,” said King. “In the end, it all came down to the last bowl of a sudden-death tie break.”

In the tie break, King held the winning shot when Bond clipped it off the face of the jack with his third bowl of the third end, to take the honours.
