FAKENHAM racer Carl Nelson competed in the first round of the BMR Club's MRO Superstock 1000 Championship at Brands Hatch at the weekend.

Riding his Honda CBR 1000 for the first time in five months, Nelson made steady progress in Friday's practice and Saturday's two qualifying sessions and was happy to qualify 12th on the combined power bike grid and seventh in the superstock class.

A good start and a strong run round the outside of the pack into Paddock Hill saw Nelson move into sixth place overall and first superstock rider.

He held this position until the seventh lap and finished a close second in superstock.

Sunday's first 12-lap race saw another good start from Nelson, but colliding with another rider at the first turn was then relegated back to 12th place. Having moved up to seventh superstock place he was very lucky to stay on after a collision with a lapped rider but still finishing seventh.

Sunday's second race was run at the third attempt due to stoppages. Another good start from Nelson resulted in a similar race to Saturday's eight-lapper with Nelson finishing second in the superstock just 0.2 of a second off the first rider.

Nelson's next meeting will be at Snetterton on March 27 and 28.

He thanked M D Williamson Carpets, James Beck Auctions, Bruce Towers Plumbing and Heating, Willowtree Signs and Graphics, C R Engineering and the Great Eastern Motorcycle Club for their support.
