One of the last wishes of popular Norfolk League cricketer Tony Gregory, who collapsed and died after a heart attack while batting in a match last summer, was fulfilled when his team completed a hat-trick of Spirit of Cricket Award wins.

And the prize - which went to Drayton A for an unprecedented third time - has been renamed the Tony Gregory Spirit of Cricket Award in memory of the former league treasurer and Drayton CC president who died in August aged 62.

The award for the team recording the highest average score per game based on marks for sportsmanship from opponents was collected by Tony's team-mates and his partner Pat at the league's annual dinner.

Over 220 cricketers, partners and officials enjoyed the evening at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, hosted by the NCL executive committee and the sponsors of the league, independent financial advisers Lucas Fettes & Partners.

League chairman Alan Harris paid tribute to absent friends Tony Gregory, Ron Dobbie (Aldborough) and Monty Montague (St Andrews) for their service to Norfolk cricket. Guests stood to applaud these fine servants, who will be sadly missed.

Mark Brown (director, Lucas Fettes & Partners), a former Norfolk Cricket League player, congratulated everyone for their performances and recognised the hard work of all volunteers. He announced that all clubs will be receiving a set of Lucas Fettes branded stumps for next season.

Keir Hounsome, chairman of the Norfolk Cricket Board, attending the dinner as a guest of the league, was presented with a framed print of Lord's by Harris in recognition of his service and commitment to the league as a committee member and former chairman.
