FAKENHAM Racecourse is in the running for a new national award

Betview magazine has announce Fakenham Racecourse and Leisure Facilities as a finalist in the Racecourse of the Year catagory in the first ever Betview Awards.

Betview will be bringing the betting and gaming industry together at the inaugural event on March 3 at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The awards will be the first event of its kind to reward and recognise the UK and ROI betting and gaming industry for outstanding achievement, ingenuity, innovation, sheer hard work and ultimately success.

The award for which Fakenham is nominated will be presented to the racecourse which provides the best experience for the betting and racing public.

The Betview Awards will have Clare Balding as their host. She presents all of the BBC's horse racing coverage and is also the main presenter for rugby league, show jumping and three-day eventing.

As a former champion amateur jockey, she comes from a racing background. Her father, Ian, trained the great Mill Reef to win the Derby, Eclipse, King George and Arc de Triomphe. On his retirement in 2002, her brother Andrew took over the training license. A Classic winner in Andrew's very first season prompted a memorable interview with his tearful sister in the winner's enclosure at Epsom after Casual Look won the Oaks.

Speaking about the awards, editor of Betview Justin O'Regan said: “The awards are the first of their kind to reward excellence in the betting and gaming industry and the broad sweep of award categories is specifically designed to ensure that all the key sectors of this vibrant and ever-changing industry are reflected in one exciting, showpiece occasion.

“No matter how big or small companies happen to be, the Betview Awards will provide the perfect platform to celebrate both individual and team success. We've are delighted with our judge's selection of finalists.”

The next Fakenham meeting is tomorrow (Friday).
