Evergreens 7, Lowestoft Railway 0

HOCKEY: Evergreens had a makeshift team of 11 due to missing some key players through injuries. But they dominated from the off and their immediate pressure paid off when Jess Shand finished off from a well-worked short corner.

The early lead boosted Evergreens’ confidence and they remained in control.

The relentless pressure on Lowestoft’s goal led to an abundance of chances, but stout goalkeeping and the frame of the goal prevented Evergreens from increasing their lead.

Tracy Daglish was unstoppable in midfield and dictated the flow of the game.

Sarah Pruden and Louise White worked well together on the left and set up Jess to score a second ‘goal’ which was disallowed due to a player obstructing the keeper.

Five minutes before half-time, Evergreens were reduced to 10 players when Tracy Daglish fell awkwardly and badly injured her knee. This heightened the Evergreens’ desire to take all three points.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Evergreens constantly attacking the Lowestoft goal.

Wth numerous chances being created, Evergreens this time converted and extended their lead.

Jess Shand bagged a further four goals to bring her match total to five, one a penalty flick.

Evergreens then made it 6-0 when Vic Mansfield’s shot from a short corner struck a defender’s foot and flew into the roof of the net.

Lowestoft admirably never gave up and created some good chances, which called Evergreens keeper Su Hoogendyk into action to help keep a clean sheet.

Quick thinking from Sam Turner created a counter-attack when she drove the ball from a hit-out to Hannah Mitchell.

She ran the ball up the pitch and crossed for Vic Mansfield to slot home to seal victory at 7-0.

This was a good, assertive performance from Evergreens who still haven’t lost a game at home.

Player of the Match: Hannah Mitchell.
