Poringland Wanderers 2, Hindringham 6
From bottom in Anglian Combination Divison One two weeks ago, Hindringham have climbed to fourth-bottom, and on Saturday have the chance to complete a vital double when they entertain fellow relegation battlers Poringland.
The match is at Fakenham’s Clipbush Park, 2pm ko (meet 1pm).
Hindringham, with Clipston away, saw Hudson replace him on the left, with Jack Ainsley coming on the bench after impressing for the reserves.
Defending the slope and strong wind first half, they settled the quickest and looked dangerous on the break. Porlingland’s direct approach was being dealt well by the Hindringham defence.
After 25 minutes Hindringham broke the deadlock. From a Betts corner, the ball fell to Matthew Hudson to fire home his first senior goal for Hindringham from the edge of the box.
They soon increased their lead when great build-up play enabled Betts to break into the box and score.
Hindringham started the second half slowly, allowing Poringland back into the game with a soft goal. But they soon raised the tempo and scored when a great clearance from Stockdale beat the defender and West nipped in to score.
Hindringham introduced Ainsley for his senior debut and he nearly scored, denied by a good save from the keeper.
Hindringham and the impressive Betts then added three quick goals, Betts scoring two of them to complete his hat-trick, both delightful curing shots into the far corner. And he set up West to score Hindringham’s sixth.
Poringland added a late consolation.
Manager Marcus Oliver said afterwards: “This has been a long time coming, but we are starting to play as a team and looked dangerous every time we went forward.
“And we seem to have stopped the goals going in. A lot of this is down to the way Gary Belton has been performing as a sweeper. Saturday is another massive game for the club.”
