FAKENHAM men's squash team clinched the Norfolk Squash Winter League Division Three title when they defeated their closest rivals Potters 4-1 as the two teams met in a winner-take-all decider at Fakenham.

Fakenham got off to a fine start as their county U17 player Adam Sinkins recorded a 3-1 victory. He lost only one game all season, which was a big part in Fakenham's success this year.

The home side's two experienced players then saw the team to a win as both Liam Brett and Bruce Bushell pulled off 3-1 victories which sealed the championship for the north Norfolk side.

The other two matches saw a good win for Ian Raisbury, who played his better squash at the end of the season, and a defeat for Michael Baron who was playing a top-class player.

Fakenham finished the season 24 points ahead of Potters, as they also won their last match 4-1 playing Norwich side Oasis.

In a changed side they brought in their other county junior Connor Doy, and he had a fine 3-0 win. There were also wins for Liam Brett, Bruce Bushell and Ian Raisbury, all 3-0 with the only defeat of the night being Steve Horn who battled hard.

This was the first time Fakenham have won a winter league for some time. Much of the success has to be down to the very strong youth section in the club with six of the club's youth section playing or training in county squads.

Next year's winter league will now be a lot stronger as it will be the first time the club has had a team in Division Two.
