Fakenham High School became the first winners of the North Norfolk School Sport Partnership volleyball competition, hosted at Aylsham High School.

Sixty pupils aged 14 and 15 years from the area's high schools entered the inaugural competition played on a round-robin basis. Fakenham achieved first place followed by Sheringham in second place. Schools had the opportunity to attend a volleyball course earlier in the year and then schools implemented an after-school club to develop skills and give match practice.

The teams at the competition received coaching from Kwok Ng, the Eastern region U14s' coach, and two University of East Anglia club players assisted with refereeing with support from Julie Zulu, school sport co-ordinator and the Norfolk County Council sport team.

Asa Saunders, partnership development manager, for the Partnership said: “Volleyball was a sport we wanted to implement as a competition across the high schools. We want to build on this next year with more schools and teams and also look at extra coaching opportunities.”
