Wells Town produce five-star display in crucial match

Brandon Tn 1, Wells Tn 5

Joe harrison’s hat-trick helped Wells win their crucial clash at fellow strugglers Brandon in Anglian Combination Division One.

Not for the first time this season, the Seasiders started sluggishly with Brandon looking the sharper of the sides.

Wells panicked and gave away a very sloppy penalty after less than a minute, but Armiger saved the spot kick and cleared the resulting corner. However the hosts had their tails up and again caused the visitors problems and this time converted with an easy tap-in from close range.

Brandon thought they had added a second only for the referee to disallow the goal for offside.

Wells eventually settled and started to have a lot more possession. Jody Murfit thought he had equalised with a well placed shot only to be ruled offside.

Wells did eventually equalise when the home keeper failed to hold a powerful Carl Baldry shot. Harrison put the Seasiders into the driving seat when he scored with a tremendous volley from distance, while Grocott was unlucky not to score on several occasions.

Harrison added his second and Wells’ third straight after the interval with a well placed shot under the keeper, and he then completed his hat-trick on the hour.

Daniel Wick scored Wells’ fifth when he fired into the empty net after the keeper had injured himself by kicking the ground while clearing a loose ball.

Wells host Harleston on Saturday, 2.30pm.

Mundford 2, Foulsham 0

It was unlucky 13 for Foulsham as their unbeaten record in Division Two was taken from them by Norfolk Junior Cup finalists Mundford.

A first half brace by young winger Fabio Almeida sealed a comfortable 2-0 win, leaving Foulsham ruing the lack of match sharpness caused by last week’s cancellation against Hempnall Reserves and the unavailability of Hagon and Darby.

Foulsham now play promotion rivals Attleborough Town on successive weekends. With Darby still unavailable they welcome back Hagon and Jamie Paling.
