When the final whistle of this season is blown, the hard work really starts for Fakenham Town manager Wayne Anderson who has the task of rebuilding the club's fortunes.

“I am hunting people already, and players are already on the phone wanting to come,” he said as he and his squad drew breath after a 4-0 reverse at section leaders Brantham on Saturday.

The Ghosts are in a seven games in 17 days schedule catching up on fixtures lost to the weather, and Anderson concedes it is too much for a squad containing five under-18 players who play youth football on a Thursday night then turn out for the Ridgeons side.

He held up Jake Betts as an example, who has played 50 games this season. Anderson admitted such pressure is not good for the physical development of young players. Dan Savory, another of the U18 squad, had to be rested with a back injury.

There were also the pressures of players finding time off work to leave early for evening games, such as the one at Halstead tonight (Thursday). If fixtures are not played, the club leaves itself open to fines from the league.

At Godmanchester last Thursday, defender Lee Hyde was played up front and scored one of the Ghosts' two first-half goals, the other coming from fellow defender Mat Gilchrist.

But the 2-0 lead turned into a 3-2 defeat. Anderson thought some players felt the game was won at half-time, and some decisions by the officials did not help the Ghosts' cause as Goddy rallied to complete a quick league double.

Brantham were too experienced and organised on Saturday, moving the ball quickly against a clearly tired Fakenham outfit.

Life gets no easier as the end of the season approaches, with a trip to promotion certainties, free-scoring Great Yarmouth on Saturday, followed by the final games of the season, both at home.
