After performing the Verdi Requiem as the major choral concert of the Bury St Edmunds Festival, members of the Bury Bach Choir will celebrate by holidaying in North Norfolk.

On Saturday, June 14, they will perform an informal concert of their favourite classical music at St Nicholas Church, Blakeney, under their musical director Philip Reed, with organist James Recknell. The event is called Summer Serenade and the concert starts at 6pm. Entry is free.

There will be a retiring collection for Blakeney Church and the choir funds.

The choir is known throughout East Anglia for its performances, with professional orchestra and soloists, of the great choral classics. Over recent years the Bury Bach Choir has brought its work to other venues in Suffolk, notably Lavenham and Long Melford, to great acclaim.

Now it will perform for the first time in Norfolk.

Musical director Philip Reed is with the English National Opera.

He lives at Aldeburgh, and has been involved in the Aldeburgh Festival and the Britten-Pears Library.

He obtained his PhD in music at UEA, Norwich.

Philip was keen to find a remarkable venue for the choir's holiday performance in the county.

“We are delighted to have been welcomed by St Nicholas in Blakeney. It is a wonderful setting and we are looking forward immensely to our visit and to performing for the people of North Norfolk,” he said.

The programme will comprise of a selection of the choir's favourite pieces drawn from its recent concerts, which included works by Bach, Beethoven, Britten, Elgar, Handel, Mozart and Haydn.
