Review of Rubber Ring at Wells Maltings on Friday 21 September 2018.
A sensitive, sexually confused teenager, Jimmy feels marooned in Sheringham. He is desperate to go to London’s O2 Arena to see pop idol Morrissey.
Friendless, penniless, bullied at school – by hook or crook (mostly crook – he steals!) he makes his escape to London. His brief adventures were narrated by author and actor James McDermott in a one-man show Friday evening at Wells Maltings Theatre,
Remember his name: James McDermott. His precise and glittering use of language, his sympathy and humour, gripped the audience, as he recaptured all the pains and struggles of young adulthood.
What a theatrical debut! He is now writing something for Channel4 and says that he will return to Wells Maltings. Can’t wait!
